Rework is what stops a problem becoming a return
Freight that cannot be accepted has to go somewhere, and the default is back to the shipper — at full freight cost in both directions, with the sale usually lost. Rework replaces that with a handling charge and a delay. The goods stay in the region they were headed for, get fixed to whatever standard blocked them, and continue. It is the difference between a bad week and a written-off shipment.
Freight rework and pallet rework overlap
The distinction is depth. Pallet rework fixes how goods are stacked and wrapped. Freight rework goes inside the cartons — sorting, counting, inspecting, relabeling, repacking. Plenty of jobs need both, and it is normal to find out which after the freight is on the dock and somebody has actually looked at it.
